WORKING GROUPS

We are restructuring our working group meeting cadences and objectives for the Complete Communities initiative


HEALTH & FITNESS

  • World Cancer Day, a global initiative to end cancer, was celebrated on February 4th at MD Anderson Cancer Center highlighting the incredible collective work that is happening as part of Be Well Acres Homes. You can read the article here.
  • Houston Parks and Recreation Department is offering fitness programs:
      • Fitness classes of 6-week sessions available at Lincoln Community Center (registration on site)
      • Adult Zumba classes, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 5 p.m. – 6 p.m.  
      • Senior Fitness program, Thursdays, 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.
      • Youth Fitness program, Tuesdays, 4 p.m. – 5 p.m.
      • Soccer for Success classes for youth ages 5 – 14 started on February 15th at Highland Park
    • Register here to attend Houston Parks Board’s Spring Fling event on Saturday, March 12th at the location of the future Inwood Recreation Phase.

HEALTHY FOOD 

  • Through UTHealth School of Public Health’s Nourish program, a culinary medicine program, Harris Health started teaching nutrition classes to patients utilizing their Food Farmacy and Teaching Kitchen on February 1st
  • The food distribution at Lone Star College-Houston North, Victory location, has been rescheduled for February 22nd and their Academy for Lifelong Learning (ALL) nutrition classes for adults 50+ started on February 15th
  • Sign up here to volunteer on Wednesdays at the Multi-service Center garden with PVAMU
  • If your school is interested in hosting Brighter Bites, the application is now open for summer 2022, and the 2022-2023 school year. Please apply here.
