Citywide Truck Route Plan Community Survey

The City of Houston is the fourth-largest city in the United States with a population of approximately 2.3 million people. The city has experienced significant population growth over the past decade with an estimated ten percent (10%) increase since 2010. Houston's economy is diverse with a mix of industries that include energy, healthcare, aerospace, manufacturing, and logistics. Our region is also home to the Port of Houston, which is one of the busiest ports in the world. The movement of freight supports economic activity, and the movement of goods and products supports the needs of Houstonians.

The growth of freight transportation in the City of Houston has created significant challenges for our community and the truck drivers that service us. Increased traffic congestion, air pollution, and safety hazards are just a few examples of the problems that we need to address.

To tackle these challenges, the City of Houston is currently preparing a truck route plan to identify the most suitable routes for through truck traffic. Please note that this plan will not affect local delivery suck as Amazon, FedEx, UPS, USPS, etc.

Our goal is to create objective criteria to designate certain roadways as “Through Truck Routes” that will allow trucks to efficiently move goods through the city. For more project details, visit Let’s Talk Houston at https://www.letstalkhouston.org/citywide-truck-route-plan.
