Acres Homes Town Center Concept: Design Review 2024

At January's Super Neighborhood meeting, the Acres Homes Town Center Concept was presented, detailing a visionary plan for community development. This initiative, thanks to the collaboration of Houston LandBank, HAR, and Rogers Partners Architects+ Urban Designers, offers a detailed layout for public spaces, housing, and retail areas in Acres Homes. The presentation provided comprehensive insights, including site plans and architectural renderings, reflecting a commitment to enhancing the community's landscape and living experience. The involvement of these key partners underscores their dedication to the project's success and community betterment. A PDF copy of the presentation can be found under the Helpful Documents.

Inwood Forest Stormwater Detention Basin Project

As many of you in the community may be aware, Harris County Flood Control District has begun activity on the Inwood Forest Stormwater Detention Basin Project. The project encompasses property located both east of Antoine and west of Antoine, with a total of 12 interconnected stormwater detention basins. The stormwater detention basins will be built by the Flood Control District on the former golf course property to provide flood damage reduction benefits during heavy storms and to mitigate impacts of future public City of Houston drainage projects as appropriate. The basins will vary in stormwater storage capacity, which is measured in acre-feet. The goal for the stormwater storage capacity for all the basins combined is approximately 1,200 acre-feet, or a little more than 391 million gallons of stormwater storage, for shared use by the Flood Control District and the City of Houston. One acre-foot is equal to one-acre times a one-foot depth, or 43,560 cubic feet (325,850 gallons).

They have asked us to share updates on the status of the project and anticipated start dates for certain activities. They have communicated that additional tree removal will begin on August 14th, and that by late August or mid-September the excavation process will begin. For any questions you may have about these upcoming activities, they have asked that we direct you to their online comment submission portal so that they can ensure a prompt response. Harris County Precinct One has commissioned a survey to assist in the development of policies that improve quality of life while advancing equal opportunity and the fair treatment of all residents of Harris County. To accomplish this, community needs, concerns, satisfaction, and interests must be an integral part of the larger Precinct decision-making process. They are inviting residents of Precinct One, including the Acres Homes Complete Community, to take a seat at the table and make your voice heard by completing the attached community survey. By completing this survey, you will be taking an active step in ensuring Precinct One priorities and initiatives are in alignment with the needs of your community!
