CenterWell is a primary care clinic for seniors with Medicare Advantage health plans that provides longer appointment times and shorter wait times. Our board-certified physicians see an average of 12 patients per day, allowing us to spend more time and provide the quality each patient deserves. Our care team consists of board-certified physicians, Integrated pharmacists, Registered Nurse Care Coaches, Behavioral Health specialists, and Resource Coordinator to assist with any social determinants of health barriers. The entire team is on-site to assist our patients with medical, emotional, and social issues and it’s all for free when they become part of the CenterWell primary care family. We have been in the market for about two years now and service 12 locations in the surrounding Houston area. Harris County partnered with Catholic Charities as the administrator for $30 million in financial assistance to help Harris County families and individuals who need help recovering from financial distress caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

• For households located within Harris County that meet eligibility requirements
• One-time $1,500 payment
• Funds may be used for any emergency expenses such as healthcare, rent or mortgage, utilities, food, internet, transportation, childcare, and other past due expenses

The application will be open July 28 - August 11. Harris County is providing $30 million in funding to help people recover from financial distress brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. Households that are selected and approved will receive a one-time payment of $1,500 for emergency expenses.

The Texas Juvenile Crime Prevention Center at Prairie View A&M University is sponsoring the inaugural series of The Darden-Caldwell LeadHERship Series for Girls: 2021 Summer Camp named in honor of its alum, Ms. Phyllis Darden-Caldwell. This one-day virtual conference is solely dedicated to girls in grades 9th – 12th and their parents or guardians. A cadre of dynamic, diverse, competent, exciting, passionate, and engaging speakers will talk and generate audience interaction on Leadership, Academics, Social Justice, Health & Wellness, and Advocacy.

This series includes concurrent breakout sessions specifically designed for our student attendees, parent/guardian attendees, and joint sessions for both.

The Series begins promptly on Saturday, August 7th, at 9:30 am and ends at 3:00 pm. We want the girls attending this series to leave believing their lives are filled with possibilities and understand that success is about overcoming obstacles, setting and achieving goals as well as accepting seemingly insurmountable challenges. And for our parents or guardians; we want them to be empowered with knowledge and resources to effectively engage in their daughters’ epic journey of life.

The Community & Economic Development unit at Prairie View A&M University has been meeting with the Texas Comptroller’s Purchasing division to focus on strategies that increase bid participation and sales among Historically Underutilized Businesses (HUB’s) who can provide goods and services to over 200 Texas agencies, universities, school districts, and large industries that participate in the statewide bidding process.

In coordination with the State Comptroller’s Office, and the El Paso Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and its partners, the Cooperative Extension Program has developed the BID Certification Program to train HUBs on how to do business with State and local government.

Upon program completion, participants will be certified by PVAMU and will be included our exclusive list of trained vendors to be shared with our network of State purchasers as well as free business marketing through our various multimedia outlets.

The Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD) is experiencing service delays in all quadrants of the City due to the increased amount of debris placed out for collection and driver shortages in our critical classifications.



As a result, SWMD is adjusting operations and updating collection schedules to serve Houston residents. The department is also hiring commercial truck drivers and offering a signing incentive pay for these critical classifications.
